Thomas Snowden was offered a permanent job after a two-day work placement

Tesco placement is just the job for Ingeus client

After six years out of work, Thomas Snowden from Colchester felt he had ‘nothing to lose’ in accepting a work placement at the local Tesco superstore. Two days later, he was offered a permanent position.

As a stock replenisher of the store’s fresh produce, Thomas joined the Tesco team just prior to Christmas, one of the year’s busiest periods. He initially volunteered for a two-week night shift placement, which best suited juggling work with the demands of a large, young family. He now works full time and can’t believe the impact it has already had on his home life.

“Being at home for so long, getting nowhere with my job applications was very depressing,” said Thomas. “When my Ingeus advisor suggested the placement I wasn’t sure what to expect but decided I had nothing to lose, and perhaps a lot to gain by giving it a try.

“I was nervous going to the induction, but it helped familiarise me with the store and I met my new colleagues. I was stunned to be offered a job after just two days.

“It has given me such a boost being back in work. I am more confident, better off, and feel like I’m setting a good example to my kids. Ingeus has helped me so much and I would recommend taking a work placement to anyone.”

Thomas clearly impressed Tesco HR Manager, Elaine Bamford, who turned to Ingeus following a recommendation from a neighbouring store.

Elaine said: “Trawling though job applications is so time consuming and many applicants are often unsuitable or live too far away. Ingeus has totally changed that. I know that they’ll provide local, interested and hard working applicants for my vacancies, people just like Thomas in fact.

“He is a perfect example of someone who just needed to be given a chance and we have a valuable addition to the team as a result. It is important that we give local unemployed people every opportunity to join us and Ingeus will certainly be my first port of call with any future vacancies.”
